We will visit the following places: the town of Maras, where the houses still retain their colonial facades; the archaeological complex of Moray, consisting of several circular terraces that served as an agricultural laboratory in the Inca period; and finally, we will appreciate the Salineras of Maras, made up of hundreds of small pools of saltwater, where members of the community still produce salt today.

Itinerary

Day 1

  • START OF TOUR: 8:40 AM
  • END OF TOUR: 2:30 PM

We will pick you up at your hotel between 8:20 and 8:30 in the morning and head to Moray. The journey lasts approximately 1 hour and 20 minutes and is absolutely beautiful. You will cross the snowy peaks of the Andes, the lush fields of yellow wheat, and the traditional Andean villages. Finally, you will arrive at the fascinating terraces of Moray. Moray is formed by three amphitheater-shaped terraces built by the Incas. These terraces are excavated in the ground in the shape of a bowl and have been used as an agricultural laboratory to determine the optimal growing conditions.

After exploring Moray, we will head to the salt mines of Maras, located just 3 kilometers away. Maras, which dates back to the colonial era, was considered a salt-producing center. Carved into the mountainside are more than 3,000 salt pools, which are filled daily with a small stream of water. Once the water evaporates, it leaves behind a glistening mosaic of salt. The Salt Mines are an ideal place to take photographs and capture the amazing beauty of both the Andes and the spectacular Salt Ponds. Then, we will return to Cusco.
