While Rainbow Mountain Vinicunca boils with thousands of tourists every day, just 20 kilometers to the south lies PALCOYO, not one, but three colorful mountains resting in complete solitude. With ocher and red colors, with green, blue, and white stripes, the dazzling Palcoyo Mountain Range is visited by a few travelers a day. Getting there only requires a smooth one-hour walk without any inclination, making it a less demanding alternative.
This new alternative was created for those who do not want such a strenuous hike but who are nature lovers. It is also a great option for families with children.
Departures:
A representative of our Travel and Tourism Agency will pick you up from your hotel at 5:00 a.m., and then we will drive for two hours from the southern part of Cusco to the town of Checacupe, arriving at approximately 7:00 a.m.
Upon arrival in Checacupe, we will see the evolutionary process of the road system over time through three colonial bridges located in the same town: the Inca Bridge, the Colonial Bridge, and the Republican Bridge. It is also possible to observe a colonial temple with sophisticated works carved in wood and gold that houses the Paintings of the Cusqueña School by Diego Quispe. Once the visit to this archaeological center is finished, we will head towards the Palcoyo Colorful Mountain Range, located at 4,900 meters above sea level.
When we arrive at this point, we will start a walk of approximately 40 minutes. In this place, we will appreciate the valleys of the glaciers formed by erosion and the Permian formations of bright colors that stand out among the others and are also inhabited by alpacas and llamas.
We will also be able to observe some communities and farmers who live in the lower areas of the Palcoyo Colorful Mountain Range. Likewise, we will enjoy the Ccacca Loma Stone Forest and the Red Mountain.
This is a full-day excursion with meals included and, for a better experience, is only offered in small or private groups.
