Itinerary

Day 1 CUSCO, MOLLEPATA, CHALLACANCHA, SORAYPAMPA (HUMANTAY LAKE)

We will begin the day by picking up passengers from their respective accommodations at approximately 4:00 a.m. After a two-hour journey, we will arrive at the village of Mollepata, where there will be a short 30-45 minute stop for breakfast.

 

We will continue to Challacancha, which will be the starting point of the hike (8 km/3.5 hours) to our Sky Camp (transparent igloos) located in Soraypampa. After lunch at the Sky Camp, we will continue the hike (2 km ascent/2 hours) to the turquoise Humantay Lagoon. After visiting the lagoon, we will return to the Sky Camp, where dinner awaits. This will be the best opportunity to observe the night sky from your beds.

Day 2 SORAYPAMPA, SALKANTAY PASS, WAYRAQMACHAY, CHAULLAY

We will wake up at 5:30 a.m., enjoy breakfast, and begin the hike to the highest point of the entire route: Salkantay Pass (4,650 m.a.s.l.) through a rocky and steep trail (7 km/3 hours). This stretch will require passengers’ physical endurance, as well as good acclimatization. At this point, there will be a short break while admiring incredible views of the snow-capped Salkantay. Afterwards, we will descend to Wayraqmachay, where we will have lunch, and then resume the hike for 2.5 hours until we reach Chaullay, where we will spend the night at the Andean Huts campsite.

Day 3 CHAULLAY, LA PLAYA, HYDROELECTRIC PLANT, AGUAS CALIENTES

At approximately 6:00 a.m., we will begin our journey (17 km/6 hours approximately) towards the small settlement of La Playa. Along the way, we will enjoy the lush landscape: rivers, waterfalls, passion fruit, and granadilla. We will also pass through the village of Collpapampa, also known as the summit of the cloud forest. After lunch at La Playa, passengers will be transported by vehicle to Hidroelectrica. From there, passengers will continue with a 3-hour hike along the train tracks towards the town of Aguas Calientes, where we will spend the night in accommodation.

Day 4 THE MOST IMPORTANT DAY: MACHU PICCHU

After a restful night’s sleep at the accommodation, we will wake up very early to head to the archaeological complex of Machu Picchu with the intention of arriving before the majority of tourists. After the tour, passengers can climb Huayna Picchu or Machu Picchu mountain; for this, tickets must be reserved in advance. The time it takes to climb up and down either of these mountains is approximately 3 hours. A less demanding option, for which no extra ticket is needed, is the hike to the Sun Gate. This journey takes 2 or 2.5 hours, round trip. Another interesting option is to walk to the Inca Bridge. You can enjoy the citadel of Machu Picchu for over 7 hours before returning to the town of Aguas Calientes.

Finally, we will board the return train to Ollantaytambo (a 2-hour journey), where transportation to Cusco will be waiting to take passengers to their respective hotels.

  • Pick-up from Cusco airport upon arrival
  • Pre-departure briefing: The informative meeting will take place one night before the trip, subject to coordination with the clients. This meeting can be held at their hotels or at our office at 6:00 pm.
  • Transportation from the hotel to the starting point of the hike. Short stop of 30-45 minutes in Mollepata for breakfast (optional).
  • Qualified guide: Our guides are fluent in English and Spanish, have professional education, and official certification. (1 guide for groups of 2 to 10 people and 1 guide + 1 assistant for groups of 12 people. Maximum 12 people per group)
  • Personal accommodation in private camps: We have a series of exclusive campsites that offer passengers fascinating experiences
  • Night 1: Andean Huts Camp. Shared accommodation subject to availability (double or triple).
  • Night 2: Lodging in the town of Aguas Calientes, with private bathroom, hot water, wifi, breakfast, and luggage storage. Shared accommodation (double or triple).
  • Night 3: Accommodation in the town of Aguas Calientes, with private bathroom, hot water, Wi-Fi, breakfast, and luggage storage. Shared accommodation (double or triple).
  • Camping equipment: We have tents for the kitchen and dining area, as well as tables, chairs, and complete kitchen equipment. All transported by horses.
  • Entrance Ticket to the archaeological complex of Machu Picchu
  • Duffle bag: During the information session, we will provide a duffle bag for passengers to carry their personal belongings (including a sleeping bag) up to a maximum weight of 7 kg / 15 lb. Our mules are responsible for transporting from one camp to another.
  • Cooking service: A specialized hiking route chef, along with their assistant, will prepare delicious Peruvian cuisine dishes throughout the trip (buffet-style meals).
  • Meals: 3 breakfasts, 3 lunches, and 3 dinners. Special menus, vegetarian or vegan, diets are available at no additional cost.
  • Morning infusion: Every morning, passengers will enjoy a hot cup of leaf infusion.
  • Tea time: Every afternoon, one hour before dinner, we will serve popcorn, cookies, coffee, chocolate, tea, hot water, etc.
  • Daily snacks: On days 1, 2 and 3. At the beginning of each day, we will offer delicious snacks in a cloth bag: local fruits, cookies, chocolates, candies.
  • Boiled water every morning: Passengers can refill their water bottles.
  • Medical kit: We will have a first aid kit that includes an oxygen bottle.
  • Return train: From Aguas Calientes to Ollantaytambo on train service. Train schedules are subject to availability of schedules at 6:20 pm and 7:00 pm.
  • Return transportation: Our final transportation from the Ollantaytambo train station to the passengers' hotel in Cusco (day 4).

Trip Doesn’t Include

  • Entry to the Salkantay Inca Trail (S/.25 per person).
  • Admission to Huayna Picchu or Machu Picchu Mountain subject to space availability (USD 55 each).
