PLACES TO VISIT:
We begin our journey along the Sillar Route by picking up passengers in the city center, at the Plaza de Armas of Arequipa. From this point, we head to the district of Cerro Colorado, passing through the district of Yanahuara. During this journey, we’ll make a brief stop at Yanahuara’s Plaza, where you can admire the Portals, the Misti and Chachani volcanoes, agricultural terraces, and the entire Chilina River Valley. You’ll also have the opportunity to taste the famous Queso Helado (Ice Cream Cheese).
Next, we head to the Añashuayco Quarries, where you can appreciate a vast canyon with cliffs several meters high. Here, you can learn about the history and uses of Sillar and witness the carving process carried out by master stonemasons. You’ll also have the option to purchase some of the carvings available at the site and observe the numerous handmade figures and carvings.
Subsequently, we move to our third stop, the Culebrillas Ravine, formed by water and wind erosion. You’ll be able to view walls several meters in height, which increase in size as we venture deeper. At the end of the journey, you can admire petroglyphs left by the Wari culture thousands of years ago. This location resembles a natural canyon formed from sillar.
Before returning to the city center, we’ll observe the Apachetas, stones stacked on top of one another as symbols of gratitude to nature and good luck. Then, we initiate our return to the city of Arequipa, dropping you off near the Plaza de Armas.
