Our Waqrapukara full-day tour will take you to one of the Inca temples located in the Andes Mountains in Cusco. This fortress is built on top of one of the steepest mountains. This trekking experience will also immerse you in an area where travelers do not usually go. This magnificent trek takes you beyond the traditional hikes in Cusco.
Waqrapukara is a new tourist attraction whose mysteries have not yet been deciphered and which allows a magnificent view of the night sky, populated by constellations, planets, and stars of enormous value in Inca cosmology. Fortress, sanctuary, or astronomical observatory are some of the interpretations of this enigmatic monument of classic Inca architecture located at 4,300 meters above sea level in the abysses of the Apurimac River canyon, south of the city in Cusco.
Very early, around 4:40 am, we will pick you up from your hotel in Cusco to head southeast of the city to the town of Acomayo where we will stop for a succulent local breakfast.
Immediately after, we will continue our journey to the point where we will begin to walk for approximately 3 hours at an altitude of 12,000 feet, passing through the Cusco meadows until our final destination: the ancient Inca fortress of Waqrapukara, at approximately 11:00 am.
After a brief rest, we will have enough time to visit and learn more about this mystical and religious archaeological site.
Then we will return along the same path until we reach our transportation and, around 3:30 pm, we will finally be returning to Cusco, arriving around 7:00 pm. Travelers who do the Waqrapukara trek should be in good physical condition and well acclimatized to the altitude. We suggest doing this trek after your tour to Machu Picchu.
